Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish

I had given up on my nails years ago after trying just about every product (hardeners, strengtheners, oils, cuticle creams and balms…you name it, I’ve tried it) out there that might make them look half decent.  The problem with my nails is that they are very very soft.  They bend and tear, they don’t break.  Because they bend so easily, any nail polish that I have put on them just flakes off after about 24 hrs.

I also use my nails as they were meant to be used…chewing on when I’m stressed, picking stickers off the kitchen table, scraping Crayola paint off the baseboards, scratching my ass…you know…regular stuff that we use our finger nails for lol.  I don’t use rubber gloves when I wash the dishes and I often shower twice a day because I go to the gym at lunch time and shower after the gym.

Anyway, now that I have started this blog and am putting more effort and thought into how I look, I started to think about my nails again and kept seeing this Essie stuff that looked like it was selling well because many of the colors seemed to be sold out whenever I saw a display of this stuff.  It’s kind of expensive for nail polish but since I’ve tried everything else, I thought maybe, just maybe, this could work for me.

So last night I put this on my nails.  I put 2 coats of the color (which is a sheer pink color because I don’t like to draw too much attention to my less than gorgeous nails lol) waiting until the first coat was complete dry (about 15 mins just to be sure) before applying the second coat.  Then I put on one coat of the top coat about 15 mins after the second coat application.  I love the way it looks.  It’s very glossy looking.  It almost looks like it’s still really wet.  The polish went on easily; it’s fairly thin so you don’t need much.  The brush is rounded and thin so that makes it a bit easier to apply.

I actually picked this up at Shoppers Drug Mart but it’s cheaper on Amazon.

I will update with how it wears throughout the week.  Really hoping that it still looks nice on day 2…if it does, than it’s better than anything else I’ve tried.  Stay tuned for updates!

update – one day later and still looking fresh.  Tomorrow will be the real test!

Day 2 – I have now been scratching my ass and picking my nose for 2 days and this nail polish is still on! It seems to be a bit more dull today but still looks pretty good! Exciting!! Will it last another day?!

Day 4 – definitely looking crappy now lol.  Nail polish is chipped, flaked, peeling, dull…in need of re-doing for sure.  Day 3 wasn’t too bad but overall, I don’t think this nail polish is the miracle I was hoping for.  I like the color and the shine on day 1 and 2 but that’s not long enough for me.  I’ll have to give something else a try in the days to come!
